Human Skin versus Pet Skin
There are marked differences between human and animal skin. This is very important when it comes down to understanding skin diseases and deciding on types of shampoo to use.
One of the main differences is skin pH. This determines if the skin is acidic (pH <7.0) or alkaline (pH >7.0)
Products to avoid in washing your pet
- Laundry detergents like Wool Mix may have harsh acidic or alkaline pH detergents designed to remove grease. They also have bleaches to remove stains and brighten colours
- Tea tree oil is poisonous, containing turpines and irritants and should not be used to bathe your animals
- Other preparations such as human shampoos and soap are not pH balanced and may cause stripping and dryness of the coat, interfering with flea control
All these are destructive to animals finely balanced skin chemistry, and makes them unsuitable for your pets coat.
